Freshman Reading Project Essay/Reflection Prompt
To complete the Freshman Reading Project, attend your small group discussion and write an essay based on the prompt below. Bring your completed essay with you to your discussion group.
If you were not able to attend the assembly, or if you failed to sign up for a small group discussion, please do so right away. The sign-up sheets are posted in the Honors College advising area in the basement of the Deans Suite in Alexander Hall.
To help you reflect on the reading and talk by Dr. David Corey, an audio recording of Dr. Corey's is posted at the bottom of this web page.
Prompt:
In 600-800 words, respond to the following.
David Brooks cites a variety of examples, stories, and research to back up the points he makes about how to deeply see and know people. Choose five strategies that Brooks recommends that most stood out to you. Describe them and discuss the specific ways he substantiates each strategy.
Spend most of your time reflecting on these five strategies but conclude your writing by exploring the implications for how you might employ them with people in your own academic journey, particularly as you begin your Baylor experience.
